Embroidery in the Middles Ages – Musée de Cluny

Embroidery from the Middle Ages is featured in the Cluny Museum. It is very rare to see such ancient textile works on display. Indeed, fabric is one of the most delicate materials among the heritage of ancient decorative arts. Presenting an art exhibition in embroidery is also not insignificant: textile arts are often under-represented in decorative arts exhibitions in general.

Of course, it takes a little imagination to restore the colours and brilliance of the original embroideries to the threads, but the materials remain well preserved and the techniques presented are varied. Strongly linked to religious representations, figurative works also present a wealth of imaginary and symbolic characters and bestiaries.
